Abstract
Bluffbody flamholders are commonly employed for stabilizing13; flames in aircraft engine afterburners and common afterburners. The main drawback of these flameholders is their undesirable presence in the flow during the nonafterburning period. To obviate this draw-back, the recirculation zones necessary for flame holding are produced by gas jets issuing out of streamlined bodies placed in the flow. This method is celled the aerodynamic flame holding. Comparative experimental studies were made on the stability characteristics of bluffbody flame holder and aerodynamic flame holder. These experiments are presented in this report.
