Abstract
A novel loading device was specifically developed to test a high power (1150 KW),high speed (18,000 rpm) drive system the drive system delivering a maximum power of 1150KW a maximum speed of 18,000 rpm, consists of a D.C.motor, a step up gear box and an optical torque meter). The loading device consists of a steel disc rotating in a drum filled with circulating water. The frictional resistance of water to the rotating discs are as a load to the drive system. Two types of discs were used one was a plain disc and the other was a disc with cutouts at the periphery. The later disc provided a significantly higher distance.
