    Based on the first law of thermodynamics for flow13; systems, exact equation has been derived for flow of13; compressible fluids (gases amp; vapours) through an orifice13; plate. The equation has been reduced to the universal13; orifice meter equation by introducing the term 'Adiabatic13; expansion factor'. Values of this factor have been computed13; and compared with empirical values. Modification to the13; theoretical expression have been suggested to minimise the discrepancy between the theoretical and empirical values expansion factor.
