    Abstract

    The important features of the techniques currently employed for the estimation of acoustic emission13; activity are described. A new method of measuring the13; energy content in acoustic emission signals is proposed.13; This method employs simultaneous counting of acoustic Possion signals at a number of thre sholdlevels, suitably distributed across the amplituderange of the signals encountered inatest.x2019;are given weightages according to their amplitudes and are summed up. This sum provides a measure of the energy in the acoustic emission signals. The accuracy of this method is estimated by using the impact of steel spheres on aglass block as acoustic emission source. It appears from the setests that the proposed method provf desareasonable approximation13; to the energy in the acoustic emission signals.13;
