Abstract

Experiments were carried out to measure the temperature13; distribution in mercury vapour confined between its liquid13; evaporating surface and a condensing plane surface. The data presented here clearly exhibit the large temperature jumps at the interface boundaries which are predicted by the theory:jumps as large as almost 50% of the applied temperature difference have so far been observed. These results, therefore, settle one of the most controversial issues inx2019;the area.
