    Abstract

    Variations in the halfwidth values of x-ray reflections from fatigue cycled, polycrystalline aluminium samples have been analysed. A hitherto 'unknown oscillatory distribution of the (bib) values with fatigue cycling has been observed. The present data also indicate that (i) the broadening due to fatigue cycling increases with increase in glancing angle (ii) the changes in the halfwidth and the integral width values due to fatigue cycling are comparable and (iii) the (bib) vs N curves for fatigue cycling under constant stress amplitude and under flight loading conditions are comparable.
