In this lecture we will (1) develop the governing PNS (Parobolized Navier-Stokes) equations for ideal gas, equilibrium air and nonequilibrium air, (2) develop the numerical algorithm to solve these equations, (3) apply the algorithm to compute the hypersonic flow past a simple geometrical shape such as a sharp cone at zero incidence, and (4) discuss the results in terms of the various gas models. Some of the expressions in this lecture have been derived in detail for the ideal/equilibrium model only.
