Abstract
The 'field-consistency' paradigm is used to identify the13; difficulties faced by the 8-noded isoparametric brick element. The 3D - elasticity equations are degenerated into beam equations and from this, error models are derived for the original brick element and for the modified (field consistent) brick element. These are verified by carrying out experiments with the single element aspect ratio sensitivity test.
