Abstract
Sm4 Bi3 first order, which. has - the. -anti-'Ph3P4 {cubic+- -st-rtleture-undergoes a isostructural valence transition near 26 kbar pressure at room temperature.- This transition from the semimetallic to the metallic13; state is accompanied electrical by marked anomalies in both thermoelectric power (TEP) high and resistivity. A significant result of the present pressure, high temperature study is that this phase boundary in the P-T plane terminates at a critical point. The temperature and pressure corresponding to the critical point are around 475xB0;C and 28 kbars. The anomalous behaviour of TEP in the high pressure metallic phase has been interpreted on the basis of a resonance scattering model.
