    Abstract

    Ti-6.7 w/o copper a1loy specimens Were subjected to13; different thermel treatments. and the resultil1g quot;microstructures analysed. Cquot;water quenching from 1273 K, the structure is predominamp;ntly martensite though precipitation products could be seen at the grsin boundaries. In addition, 8 fine scale precipitation was observed within the nartensite.Upon ageing this specimen at 023 K a lamellar structure resulted. Electron diffraction studies indicated that the Ti2Cu precipitate that is formedin the early stages ageing has b.c.c.structure, with an orientation relationship after prolonged ageing, the structure if the precipiate changes to b.c.t. on ageing at higher temperature both lemellar equilibrium precipitates formed directly along with extensive recrystallisation air cooling and furance cooling from 1273 K resulted in lamellar structures with changes in the interlamellar spacing.
