Abstract
From an analysis of the truncation errors of finite difference schemes when a coordinate transformation is made conditions are derived to retain the order of accuracy. If the computational domain is segmented into sub-domains, problems of accuracy may specially arise at the subdomain boundaries where the derivatives of transformation function are discontinuous:' The conditions derived are on the continuity of higher order derivatives of the transformation function. Correction factors are developed to retain the second order accuracy and/or to minimise the truncation errors of certain central difference schemes when such conditions on transformation function are not met. 'Elimination of the need to satisfy these conditions greatly improves the flexibility on the choice of transformation functions. The effectiveness of the corrections is evaluated through a test case of numerical solution of Laplace equation on a square domain
