Abstract
X-ray microbearn technique is very useful in studying the mechanical behaviour of materials in localised areas. The area examined is about 50 microns in diameter. In this memora, ndum, the principle of a microbearn technique is described and the various steps involved in the stress-strain analysis in localised areas such as a crack tiP. discussed. A computer programme has been written and tested for the calculation of principal strains and stresses and their directions from the shift of the diffraction spots obtained in microbeam photographs.
