Abstract
In digital data transmission technique whetber a co-axor an optical fiber cable is used, the most common and simple practice to send the system clock pulses is by manchester-data modulation method - so that a separate transmission channel is not needed.(1). A ve!y simple and inexpensive MODEM for anchester-data modulation/demodulation has been developed at the National Aeronautical Laboratory, Bangalore. This can save time required for importing a modem and the cost. This modem which is totally indigenous, is being used successfully in the Fiber 0ptic Telemetry as well as in the Fiberoptic Data Bus for airborne applications upto 1 Ub/s NRZ, but can be extended to 10 Mb/s and even 50 Mb/s by proper choice of very fast digital ICs. Practical13; considerations in the design of manchester-data modems are13; highlighted in this paper.
