Abstract
This report presents the recovery characteristics of13; thermocouple temperature probes having three different shield configurations. Tests were conducted in a 0.25 m x 0.1 m cross-section Induction Tunnel over a subsonic Mach number range of 0.1 lt; M lt; 0.65 and a yaw angle range of -300 0lt;:lt;+30xB0; under atmospheric total pressure conditions. Results indicate that the recovery factors and recovery ratios of cylindrical probes are much lower at all Mach numbers and show very poor reproducibility compared to the half shielded and Kiel type probes. However, the output of the half shielded probe is found to be more sensitive to yaw angle compared to the other two probes. Recovery data of an unshielded thermocouple probe are also presented for reference.
