    Abstract

    In this paper an investigation of the transonic flow over a sharp-edged delta wing, within the framework of the Euler equations, has been carried out . An embedded conical (EC) grid, which exploits the special nature of the flow-field, has been employed here.The computed solutions show a well resolved vortex structure containing embedded cross-flow shocks and shock-induced secondary13; separation, right from the apex. Earlier computations, in spite of using very fine grids, have not resolved such a flow-field . This is because of the dissimilar13; ansverse length scales of the conventional grids and the flow, near the apex . The poor near-apex flow resolution not only leads to a lower vortex suction, but also the cross-flow shocks near the apex cannot be captured, and this considerably affects the lee-side flow . This is also shown by presenting solutions on a conventional H-O grid .
