Abstract
This paper provides two independent proofs of13; a lemmaa in aerofoil theory due to Lighthill .13; The proofs were provided to the author, in personal communications, by Radhakrishnan, and by13; Lighthill . The paper concludes by pointing out13; the fallacy in the counterexample provided by Shankar.
