    Abstract

    An attempt has been made to develop a PC-based software. LAMPRO-Laminated Plate and reinforcement Optimizer, for the optimum design of reinforcements for cut outs in composite laminates subjected to combined inplane and bending loads. This report deals with the development, validation, and application of the software for the design of reinforcement for circular holes in laminates subjected to uniaxial tension. Symmetric laminates are first designed to withstand the specified loading by optimising the layup scheme using the Laminate Ranking Technique in a Repeated Sub laminate construction. The hole is then introduced in the plate, and using the Quadratic Failure Criterion, an optimum reinforcement is designed for strength using an iterative procedure. A High- precision Triangular Laminated, Anisotropic Plate Element is used for the stress analysis.13; Numerical results are presented for the design of reinforced circular holes in T300/5208 CFRP, E-Glass/Epoxy13; (Scotchply-1002) and B(4)/5505 Boron/Epoxy laminates . It is observed that stepped reinforcements provide the most optimal solution with least weight penalty.13; 13;
