Abstract
An eigen function expansion procedure is developed for Stokes flow in two-dimensional rectangular cavity driven by the uniform motion of one the walls. The resulting solutions show that earlier finite difference computations of the interesting corner eddies, while qualitatively correct, are quantitatively inaccurate. The remarkable13; symmetries of these eddies are investigated to determine their actual departure from symmetry. The solution for the infinitely deep cavity is also presented.
