Abstract
The rapid improvement ' in computational power available due to faster chips and parallel processing is directed at present towards solving partial differential equations which arise in many important settings such as structural analysis, circuit- analysis, oil reservoir simulation, fluid mechanics etc. These partial differential equations13; lead to very large systems of linear equations of the, type Ax = B, with A being sparse.13; 13; Iterative methods such as preconditioned CGM and especially its parallel form play a preferred role in obtaining solution of these systems occurring in the three-dimensional model, as direct methods are too costly both in terms of storage and computation. A survey of preconditioners in the domain of. preconditioned CGM13; and its parallel form applied to a large variety of scientific problems mapped on to a wide range of modern architectures is reported here.
