Abstract
A pilot project was taken up by NAL to study the nature of loading a fin of a13; particular aircraft experiences during the flight.13; The task of limited instrumented flight tests has revealed that the vertical fin13; experiences buffet under asymmetric maneuvers as a consequence of the excitation of13; inherent structural response modes in the frequency range from 10 to 50 Hz. The base13; line data obtained during flight tests can be used as a pointer for assessment of13; structural integrity of vertical tail assembly at a later date, when the extension of Total13; Technical Life (TTL) of airframe would be taken up.13; In view of findings on buffet response of the fin through instrumented flight tests, it is13; concluded that the aircraft can perform required maneuvers safely within the specified13; limit of flight envelope even though the buffet occurrence is observed within it.13; Further, no additional limitations on aileron (roll) and rudder deflection other than13; those laid down in the flight manual are recommended.
