    Abstract

The wind speed data collected in the Karnataka Western ghats on the ridge line around Talacauvery, Kodagu District during the year 1987 is consolidated in the form of hourly frequency distributions on a monthly basis. There were four monitoring stations on the ridge line with a rough span of 2 to 3 kms. Further, this data is used to obtain a first approximation of possible energy capture using typical grid connected WECs. In order to verity the procedure employed, the method was used to calculate the possible energy capture in a existing wind farm in thb country and compared with actual production figures.
