Abstract
The present report gives an account of the Aerodynamic Design of a 500 W aero-generator for battery charging application. Based on the literature survey, conceptual design of the base line aero-generator was decided. A detailed survey of the aerofoils available in the open domain was done and 16 aerofoils had been chosen. A detailed design of the shape of the aero-generator (twist and chord) had been carried out for each aerofoil. Analysis using GH-Bladed is done to quantify the performance of the rotor for different operating conditions. Finally a comparative study of the performance was done and four aerofoils had been chosen for further detailed investigation. The report ends with a note of the future works envisaged viz. prediction of the segmental loadings on the rotor blades, detailed structural design of the rotor blades based on these predicted loading and making fabrication drawings.
